An enormous amount of work went into setting things up on Friday. It was almost ready for the opening at 7pm (It's a pity the last minute doesn't last an hour! so many last minute things to do).
Fortunately the weather, although not exactly kind, held and a constant stream of people came through on the Saturday and Sunday and support for the event was good.
Final accounting has yet to be completed but the outcome is expected to be better than last year.
The people who made the show the success it was are too many to name individually (you know who you are) but full praise was bestowed on the project manager, Clive Cairns, by all involved for his energy and untiring attention to detail.
A full post-mortem will be held to determine the few things that could have been done better to improve things for next years event .
Obvious lessons were;
- Don't start the ceiling fans with a hall full of helium filled balloons
- Get the possums out of the roof space and keep them out
(a possum jumped on a ceiling ventilation unit which fell onto a display table stocked with ceramics)!

At the Maxi Day on December 16th 2000, a cheque for $15,100 was handed over to the S.E.S.
The handover was attended by Danna Vale MP, Federal Member of Parliament for Hughes, and Barry Collier MP, State Member of Parliament for Miranda who congratulated the Region for the work that was put into the event by so many people who donated their time and expertise to assist the men and women of the State Emergency Service, who also gave their time and expertise to help others.
The Cheque was presented to David Monk of the S.E.S by Clive Cairns, project manager of the Charity Craft Show. In his acceptance speech, David assured members that the money would be used for the benefit of the Sutherland Shire.
