Richard Raffan provided a full day demonstration at the Southern Highlands Region hall on Saturday May 22^nd 2004 to an audience of over 50 people.

Richards demonstration included;

• bowl making, including removing the core of the bowl to provide material for a second bowl


• Box making including the technique for ensuring a suction fit lid


• Discussion of bowl making including shape and form, wall thickness and finishing issues. Richard made use of cut-in half bowls to demonstrate how wall thickness should be handled.


• Discussion of box making techniques


• Finishing including hand and power sanding


• Tool handling and cutting techniques. Richard made use of large
  scale wooden models of the cutting tip to explain how cuts are made


• grinding techniques
