The 'Things Of Wood' exhibition was an initiative by John and Jude Austin and followed the highly successful 2001 exhibition. The exhibition ran from August to October at the Fairfield City Museum and Gallery and was open to woodworkers of any level who could provide work of a presentable standard. Guild members entered a large variety of work which, when added to the range of other woodcraft, produced a magnificent display.
September 13th was the activities day with a number of woodcrafters providing live demonstration of their skills. Food and live music was provided and coupled with a terrific spring day, the event proved to be a great success with a continuous stream of visitors enjoying everything that was going on.
The Sydney Woodturners Guild once again provided 2 lathes and sufficient demonstrators to give a non-stop performance throughout the day with a constant crowd of visitors keenly interested in the range of techniques being used and the work produced. Many visitors took home goblets, shopping bag handles, mushroom boxes and tea lights having watched their production from start to finish. Adrian Barendregt, Darryl Smith, Bill Longhurst and Keith Jeeves gladly gave up their time to be a part of a great day at a great exhibition.
