Sydney Woodturners Guild
Timber and Working With Wood Show 2003

Once again, the Guild provided a display at the Timber and Working with Wood Show held at Fox Studios, Moore Park, Sydney on 20st, 21st and 22nd June 2003.

Like last year, the event was deliberately organised as a combined Guild event rather than having one Region do the majority of the work. Southern Region handled the liaison with the organisers, assembled the stand (designed and constructed by Southern for the 2001 show), provided a static display of work for the three days and dismantled the stand after the event. The demonstrations and manning of the stand was performed by three Regions, one day each, who provided members and brought along a display of their work for the day. This year, the three days were covered admirably by Peninsula, Southern/Menai/Hornsby and Southern Highlands respectively.

For the entire duration of the show, two lathes were running continuously and members were available to explain to visitors how things were done, discuss woodcraft and provide information about the Guild. It was encouraging to see a significant number of visitors, including many young people, expressing interest in joining the Guild and learning woodturning.

The show itself was up to it’s usual standard with new products, plenty of timber and bargains galore. At 2-30pm on the last day, there were still 100 metre queues at the door and the ATM had been refilled six times that day.

From the Guild’s point of view, our stand was a great success and to all involved, a sincere thank you for a job well done.

Looking forward to 2004.
