Neil Scobie Demonstration

Neil Scobie demonstrated how to use carving techniques to bring a basic bowl to a sculptured form.

Neil derives much of his inspiration from nature and began his session with a slide show explaining how natural features of the Australian landscape influenced his design philosophy.

The rest of the session was taken up with the turning of a bowl and carving an 'erosion' form using a variety of equipment and techniques including powered carving wheel, rotary burr, hand chisel and power sander. Neil also explained the grinds he used on gouges with the aid of wooden models.
